Putting up fences
The main plan for this weekend was to replace the fences. The old fences had become somewhat rotten, and as a result they were bending when the wind blew from the south and popping out of the fence posts. Although I had tried to brace them to keep them up, the only real answer was to replace them.
We had ordered some new panels, with the hope that these would be delivered in the dry and that we could cover them to keep them dry and therefore as light as possible, as we would have to lift each panel at least 6 foot off the ground to slide it into place. Unfortunately, the panels were delivered wet, and delivered a day early and so we were not able to keep them covered. Therefore, they were wet and heavy. However, with Dominic and Teresa holding each side to try and keep the panels upright, and me lifting from the middle, we were able to lift 8 existing panels out and drop 8 new ones in in about 3 hours. It probably then took at least that long to cut up the old panels and get them to the dump - especially since two trips were needed to get them there. However, all done, and hopefully the fence will stay up for a few more years.
We did have time to go for a couple of walks - and to take a few photos. (The first one is one from London, taken on Friday night).
