Heveningham Hall Country Fair

The Heveningham Country Fair is an annual charity event held at Heveningham Hall. We have been to the Fair a number of times.  As well as events in the main ring such as the Suffolk Punch horse parade, a falconry display, and a stunt display (normally horses but on one occasion motorbikes), there is normally also an air display – often with at least one Spitfire.  In recent years, there has also been a motor concour (a Concours d’Elegance where cars are displayed and judged).  In addition, for the first time this year, there was a short hill climb for some of the cars.  Unfortunately, no one was allowed beside the track for the hill climb, and everyone had to be behind the start line – just behind the exhaust pipes of the cars as they started – and then watch the cars complete the hill climb on a TV screen.  Fortunately, as soon as the last competitor had gone up the hill, the restrictions on where you could stand were lifted, and so it was possible to stand right next to the track as the cars came back down – in some cases coming down almost as fast as they went up, and in some cases deliberately leaving the track.
