Time to Turn the Season Around?
After a disappointing start to the season, and a poor start to 2012 which has yet to see Ipswich gain a point in the league and has seen them knocked out of the FA Cup, today is the day when they start to turn things around and get some points to start moving up the table! Not much interest in coming to this game - just Dom and me - and would not be surprised if it was a small crowd - especially as the tickets are expensive as Blackpool have just come down from the Premier League. Also Ipswich seem a little light on players - Leadbitter, Bowyer and Bullard are all either injured or unwell or only just returning. However, sitting in McDonalds before the game, Dom is predicting a 2-0 and I am going for 3-0 (not saying who to).
Now in the ground - 10 minutes to kick off. Looking quite empty and still not sure of the team. Blackpool are wearing shorts and socks that are luminous orange! Dom has now changed his mind 2-1 to the Blues. I am sticking with 3-0 but still not sure which way!
So here is the team - McArthy, Edwards, Sonko, Smith, Creswell, Hyam, Carson, Martin, Scotland, JET. That is good - a few youngsters who may be able to run! Kick off soon.
10 minutes in and it is 1-0 to Town. Lots of pressure and it bounced in - probably of Scotland but perhaps an own goal.
Made it to half time - still 1-0. Town have certainly been the better team - although not too many clear cut chances. Playing two holding midfielders (Hyam and Drury) in front of the defence make us a bit stronger - but Blackpool have broken through a few times. The forward midfield line of JET, Martin and Carson have looked lively - especially Martin. JET has won more headers than I have seen from him in a half of football (3)!
Second half about to start. We have Bullard, Ainsley, Chopra and Priskin on the bench. Will they be needed? We will see.
60 minutes down and 2-0 up. Tommy Smith - playing one of his better games - heads across the goal and in. Blackpool are about to make their third and final change of the afternoon. Still on for my 3-0 (to Ipswich).
Pressure on now - Blackpool have pulled on back with 25 minutes to go. Soft goal - poor keeping.
Bullard and Priskin on now - Scotland injured and Carson taken off (for no good reason). Crowd under 17,000 which given that that includes all season ticket holders whether they are here or not is as bad as predicted. Can we hold on?
A good shout for a pen refused and then Kevin Phillips - from an offside position scores for 2-2. Another good shout for a pen refused. Edwards getting caught out at the back time and time again. It is going wrong.
4 minutes of time added on and anyone could win! But it finished 2-2. Better, but not the turning point hoped for.
