Phoenix
The second leg of my US trip was to Phoenix. I had stayed in Scottsdale before, a city just to the north east of Phoenix. This time, I was staying south of Phoenix, and indeed south of South Mountain which is itself south of Phoenix. I was staying at the Wild Horse Pass resort where the mid-winter AIPLA conference was being held.
As you can see from the photos below, the view out of my room window looking north across the lake and the golf course to the South Mountain was lovely.
There was not too much free time during the conference - although I did manage to go to see my first NHL ice hockey game (the Phoenix Coyotes - soon to be renamed the Arizona Coyotes - losing 2-1 to the Buffalo Sabres). I did manage a drive to Apache Junction to see Superstition Mountain as the sun was going down one evening, and also made it (in a car!) to and up South Mountain for a lovely view over Phoenix and some cactus.
